Sugar and Spice and Everything Mama

Mama's Night Out 10/10/08

Last night was a sweet break at the end of a long week.  We had a chance to sample some great cookies and to just relax with friends.

While every cookie was YUMMY, the store bought mice cherries won the most oohs and aahs last night.

Here's a list of the sweet treats that were shared: (For recipes check out the comments.)

Black and White Cookies
Starbucks Chai Truffles
Starbucks Chocolate Tasting Squares
Pepperidge Farm French Vanilla Pirouette
Publix Chocolate Covered Cherry Mice
Bark Yummies
Pumpkin Spice Cake with Cream Cheese Icing
Chocolate Chip Cookies (from cake mix)

Our Very Own "Mama-preneur"

It wasn't just about sugar and spice last night, we also had the chance to see a demonstration of one of our friend's "mama-must have" inventions!  Tangela brought along her Go! Pillow and Aija demonstrated how easy it is to use and how absolutely practical this nursing pillow is.  For more information about the Go! Pillow (as seen on the Montel Williams show) click here.

10 Fun Things To Do Around Town

If you have small children and find yourself wanting to escape the house or backyard for the day here are some fun things that are either free or cost little:
  1. Visit the library. Visit the Lakeland Library website for details about special events. FREE
  2. Feed the ducks at Lake Morton. This lake is right across the street from the library. FREE
  3. Take a trip to the Mulberry Phosphate Museum. The museum has a wonderful display of fossils found right here in Polk County. Fossils include a huge baleen whale and claws from a giant prehistoric sloth! And don't forget to take your shovels and buckets because you can dig for your own fossils right there! FREE (donations excepted)
  4. Aldermann Ford Park has a paved bike trail that's great for big kids and little kids alike. There is also a nature center full of live reptile exhibits. The playground and covered pavilions equipped with b-b-q pits and running water make this park an awesome family picnic spot. FREE (donations excepted)
  5. Chik-Fil-A. Ok, it's not something you would think as an 'outing' experience, but the Chik-Fil-A on the south side of town is always clean and has a great indoor play area for the kids. The staff will even bring your food to your table if you're trying to wrangle your kids alone.
  6. If you don't mind a bit of a drive, go to the Brandon Mall for a ride on the carousel. It's two bucks for kids and parents ride free. Have lunch while you're there and visit the Disney store which is right next to the carousel.
  7. Explorations V is a lot of fun. This is a hands-on museum in downtown Lakeland. $5 per person
  8. Books A Million at Lakeside Village has a small area for little kids to play while parents enjoy a cup of Joe! Check out their special kid's events calendar!
  9. Backyard Adventures is an interactive learning party/play center full of inflatable fun! $5.50 ages 1-2, $7.50 ages 3-12
  10. Make a playdate with another Lakeland Mama!
If you have something you like to do with your kids, tell us about it by commenting to this post!

Now go, have fun!
