- Visit the library. Visit the Lakeland Library website for details about special events. FREE
- Feed the ducks at Lake Morton. This lake is right across the street from the library. FREE
- Take a trip to the Mulberry Phosphate Museum. The museum has a wonderful display of fossils found right here in Polk County. Fossils include a huge baleen whale and claws from a giant prehistoric sloth! And don't forget to take your shovels and buckets because you can dig for your own fossils right there! FREE (donations excepted)
- Aldermann Ford Park has a paved bike trail that's great for big kids and little kids alike. There is also a nature center full of live reptile exhibits. The playground and covered pavilions equipped with b-b-q pits and running water make this park an awesome family picnic spot. FREE (donations excepted)
- Chik-Fil-A. Ok, it's not something you would think as an 'outing' experience, but the Chik-Fil-A on the south side of town is always clean and has a great indoor play area for the kids. The staff will even bring your food to your table if you're trying to wrangle your kids alone.
- If you don't mind a bit of a drive, go to the Brandon Mall for a ride on the carousel. It's two bucks for kids and parents ride free. Have lunch while you're there and visit the Disney store which is right next to the carousel.
- Explorations V is a lot of fun. This is a hands-on museum in downtown Lakeland. $5 per person
- Books A Million at Lakeside Village has a small area for little kids to play while parents enjoy a cup of Joe! Check out their special kid's events calendar!
- Backyard Adventures is an interactive learning party/play center full of inflatable fun! $5.50 ages 1-2, $7.50 ages 3-12
